Father Son Reunion
I witnessed a little boy in the store today who was in a panic because he couldn't find his father. Apparently he had wandered away from his father. It was a beautiful reunion to see the little boy so excited to be scooped up into the arms of his father when he found him.
I thought about this scripture when I saw the two of them together. Suddenly it made so much more sense to me. We should be like children when it comes to our relationship with God our Father. We should be like this child that is completely lost when he wanders away from his father. We also should stop looking at God as an authoritative figure that we are afraid of disappointing.
In Ministry I have found that so many people pull away from God because they have felt that they have done too much to disappoint God. But when we begin to look at God as a father and ourselves as an infant child, that is when we can get a clear picture of who He really is. When a child is learning to walk they fall many times. But they are always greeted by their father excitedly reaching His hands down to them to help them get back on their feet. That is exactly how God is for us.
When we fall we don't need to run away from God and fear that He's disappointed in us. We need to look at God as reaching down towards us to help us back on our feet when we sin or screw up. If we liken ourselves to small little children it will become so much easier to serve God. We will be excited to make our Father happy instead of worrying about disappointing Him.
